Yara supports Farmers Day celebration

Yara Ghana Limited, a leading supplier of fertiliser in the country, has presented to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) GH¢20,000 cash, 100 bags of fertiliser and some souvenirs to support this year’s Farmers Day celebration.

Managing Director of Yara Ghana, Sergio Godoy — who made the presentation in the company of Head of Africa Unit of Yara, Benhard Fonseka — said the fertiliser supplier remains committed to the Ghanaian cause.

He said over the years Yara has supported the celebration of Farmers Day, and this year’s is not going to be an exception.

“As a partner with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Yara Ghana has over the past years been supportive of the Farmers Day celebration to reward the hard-working farmers of Ghana,” he said.

Handing over the items, Mr. Godoy noted that Yara Ghana will continue to provide quality crop nutrition solutions as well as share knowledge that it has acquired through its research activities around the world.

The Farmers Day Celebrations are held on the first Friday of December every year; it is an occasion set aside to give recognition to all farmers and fisher-folk in the country, and to acknowledge their contributions to Ghana’s development.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the Food and Agric Ministry, Dr. Ahmed Yakubu Alhassan, the Deputy Minister, thanked Yara for the gestures it has made to farmers over the years.

According to Dr. Yakubu, the support of Yara will go a long way in organising successful celebrations. He asked Yara to consider expanding its extension services to smallholder farmers in the hinterland, who he said could make good use of such assistance.

Present at the brief ceremony to hand over the items was Joseph Boamah, Chief Director of the Ministry, who also urged other corporate entities to consider emulating the example of Yara and support the country’s hard-working farmers.

YARA remains the leader in Ghana’s fertiliser industry. Since its establishment in the country in 2007, Yara has continuously and consistently worked with farmers in all the regions of Ghana, imparting knowledge with a special focus on best practices and appropriate application of fertiliser.
