Turkey to provide 30% of Ghana’s energy needs

About 30 percent of Ghana’s energy needs is expected to be provided by Turkish investors within the next few years.
At least this is the assurance from the Turkish Ambassador to Ghana, Nesrin Bayazit.

Ghana’s economic prospects according to the ambassador present investors with an opportunity for growth.

Ghana recently engaged a Turkish company, Karpower for a power barge which is currently generating 225 Megawatts of power.

A second barge is also expected this year to increase power supply to meet demand.

Ambassador Nesrin Bayazit tells citi business news discussions are ongoing to bring in more investments to develop the power sector which most businesses have cited as a major challenge confronting their operations.

She was speaking at a pre-departure session for Ghana’s trade mission to Turkey organized by the World Trade Centre, Accra.

“There are two barges commissioned by Ghana’s Ministry of power; one of them, the 225 MW power barge is docked at Tema with the second expected to come this year.”

“There are other Turkish companies who would like to invest in Ghana’s power needs at the moment there is one of the major companies working with Ghanaian authorities and if it all goes through, it will be like providing the 30 percent of the energy needs of Ghana,” the Ambassador stated.

The trade mission comprises businesses engaged in agriculture, real estate, banking and textiles. It is led by the Executive Chairman of the World Trade Centre-Accra, Togbe Afede the 14th.
