‘Tourism single window’ to market Ghana extensively-GTA Boss

In an effort to significantly improve its revenues, the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has introduced a system to block loopholes in its revenue generation, Mr Akwasi Agyemeng, GTA’s CEO, has disclosed.

The Single Window Destination project for the tourism industry, launched on August 23, is targeted at promoting excellence in the sector.

The Window, which is a consolidated portal, has information relevant to the industry for visitors and tourists about Ghana, be it business, tourism, service providers, geo-location, social media mapping among others.

The project also forms part of modules to deepen public access to information on the country’s tourism profile in a broader angle, even for domestic tourists.

“When we increase the sector’s presence on the internet, it could go a long way to meet Ghana’s target of registering a commanding presence in the African tourism space by the year 2026, that is our long term objective” he averred.

Francis Gavor, Business Development Manager of Societe Generale de Survellance (SGS) the project’s implementing agency, said the system would help the GTA to mobilise revenue by deploying mechanisms to enhance tourism levy collection.

The platform, according to him, would connect all the stakeholders in the tourism industry and help them to interface electronically, while deploying strategies to ensure that the one percent levy charged from tourism operators was paid and monitored.

“It would also help in the issuance of certificates for tourism operations by automating registration and licensing processes, cutting down delays and challenges the operators are confronted with, when acquiring some documents from the GTA.
