Tigo’s 3G coverage expanded and improved

Tigo Ghana has announced that it is pushing forward with a $24 million network expansion.

This expansion is the 1st phase and it will in the next 4 months see 114 cell sites going up to boost their network quality and capacity within the Greater Accra, Ashanti and Western regions.

Tigo’s Chief Technical and Information Officer, CTIO, Ron Reddick, during a media tour to some of the company’s upcoming cell sites stated that “with the increasing smartphone penetration and the rapid development of new services and applications, additional network investment and expansion works have become necessary as this will guarantee our capacity to meet the expectations of the increasing demand and number of customers.”

This will largely be in the urban areas within the 3 regions and will help ease congestion in some high traffic and densely populated areas and or close the gap in other communities.

“We have just started the new roll outs and the feedback is excellent. For instance we had some congestion within the Airport residential area in Accra which affected customer experience, since splitting up the traffic and migrating some customers unto the new cell sites, we have received very good reviews on our internet speed and overall quality for voice calls, he revealed.

He assured customers that network quality remains Tigo’s biggest priority and reiterated that over the next couple of years the company will double up its efforts to significantly expand its network and improve the experience of customers.
