PharmaAfrica has announced that the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) will be supporting the 2nd Africa Pharmaceutical Summit (APS) and Pharmatech Africa (PTA) Exhibition as headline partner.

The summit is slated for from the 10th to 12th of September, 2014 at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, Ghana. It will bring stakeholders in the pharmaceutical industry on the continent together to deliberate on the industry and the way forward.

This includes pharmaceutical industry players, public sector and government officials who are involved in the policy, regulation and processes surrounding pharmaceutical sector development.

The two-day event will comprise a variety of presentations and panel discussions covering the key challenges and issues affecting the pharmaceutical industry in Africa.

The Summit will be held in conjunction with, and alongside, the 1st Pharmatech Africa Exhibition, a 100% pharma-focussed exhibition on pharmaceutical products, formulation, raw materials, active ingredients, processing machinery, packaging machinery and equipment, showcasing the industry’s latest technological advances.

Juergen Reinhardt, Project Manager at UNIDO said: “UNIDO supports the APS as the event tables the right issues for the private and public sector to engage on, for the pharmaceutical industry’s development”.

“This year’s special topic ‘Strategies in Partnering and Investment’ makes it a valuable opportunity to forge partnerships be it private-private or public-private to enhance the African pharmaceutical manufacturing capabilities. Combined with Pharmatech Africa, it is a great opportunity to network” he said.

Miles Mudzviti, Managing Director, PharmaAfrica also said: “Collaboration plays a big role in furthering the agenda on pharmaceutical sector development in Africa, so it gives me great pleasure to welcome UNIDO to our impressive collection of supporters as headline partner for the 2014 events. It is through the on-going support of our partners that we can continue to drive the dialogue and give stakeholders the opportunity to meet and exchange.”

Pharmatech Africa is the only exhibition to have the support of all the regional industry associations from West, East and Southern Africa as well as the pan-African industry body, the Federation of African Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Associations.
