Motorola launched two new phones

Motorola, yesterday announced a pair of phones: The Moto G4 and the Moto G4 Plus. Both phones share the same basic design with a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 617 processor and a 3,000mAh battery with fast charging. Where they differ is in the details.

The Plus has a 16-megapixel rear camera with aperture, “big pixels” and laser and phase detection autofocus. It also has a fingerprint sensor.

The regular G has a 13-megapixel camera (likely the same as in the current G), and no biometric magic. Of course, both will be customizable with the company’s Moto Maker service.

At the phones’ launch event in India, Motorola spent a long time talking about the Plus’ camera — that seems to be the real incentive to spend the extra money on the pricier model.

The independent image analysis company DxOMark has apparently rated the Moto G Plus’ photo quality ahead of iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, although this is only photo quality, and not the overall camera score, which also factors in video quality and other things.

As is becoming customary with Android phones, there are some slight RAM differences between the models, depending on which storage option you go for.

The vanilla Moto G4 comes with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. The G4 Plus will have them  unless you opt for the model with 32GB of storage, in which case you’ll get 3GB of RAM
