Microsoft is moving forward on its promises of putting local candidates forward for management positions by appointing Derek Appiah as country manager for Ghana. The move comes as Microsoft Ghana has seen its staff become 100 percent Ghanaian and hope to continue to provide employment for local tech specialists.
The company says that Appiah brings his expertise in developing youth employability skills in order to assist in developing the country’s overall business ecosystems.
Although technology and ICT skills are on the lower side in Ghana when compared to the rest of the world, Microsoft and its Appiah appointment aims at attracting more and more locals to educate themselves and get into the tech sector to push the country forward.
Microsoft says its 2013 initiative 4Afrika plays a major role in bringing the continent’s economic competitiveness to the forefront of policy and business.
The expectation is that Appiah will continue to push the initiative forward and entice more and more Ghanaians to join the ranks of the tech sector.
Microsoft also announced it was partnering with Spectra Wireless to launch Africa’s first commercial service network that will take advantage of the country’s TV white spaces.
