Ghana Gas Company Limited has indicated that the Karpowership which relocated recently from Tema to the Sekondi Naval Base in the Western Region will begin using gas processed from the Atuabo Gas Plant in October this year.
Head of Corporate Communications at Ghana Gas, Ernest Owusu Bempah, who mentioned this to journalists in Sekondi, was among some officials of Ghana Gas who visited the ship over the weekend to acquaint themselves with the extent of work done so far.
He said the laying of pipelines to connect the Karpowership from Atuabo was about 85 per cent complete.
Government decided to move the Karpowership which had capacity to produce 470 megawatts of power daily, from Tema to Sekondi Naval Base to enable Ghana Gas push natural gas from Atuabo to power it.
“We will be pushing between 60/70 million standard cubic feet of gas on a daily basis which can generate about 470 megawatts of power daily for the country”, he said.
Mr Bempah expressed the hope that all things being equal, the powership would become operational in October.
He pointed out that the 8kilometre onshore and the 1.3kilometre offshore pipelines linking the Karpowership and the tie-in point had all been successfully laid. What remained to be done were the metering gauge and other technical lines that are supposed to be fixed.
He said Ghana Gas had more gas and would be able to meet the demands of the powership.
Mr Bempah commended the management and staff of Karpowership as well as all stakeholders for the progress of work done so far.
