Inflation For March Drops To 10.4%

The Consumer Price Inflation (CPI) which measures the average change over time in the general prices of goods and services dropped to 10.4 percent in March 2018.

This represents a 0.2 percent drop compared to the 10.6 percent recorded in February 2018.

The rate of inflation for March is the percentage change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) over the twelve month period from March 2017 to March 2018.

Mr. Anthony Amuzu told Citi Business News, the drop is as a result of the drop in inflation of non-food items.

“There were some declines in some of the sectors, in fact in almost all the non-food sectors such as housing, clothing and footwear and also transport, these were all marginal declines but cumulatively the lead to the decline from 10.6% in February 2018 to 10.4% in March 2018”.

The non- food group recorded a year on year inflation rate of 11.8 percent in March 2018, compared to the 12.2 percent recorded for February 2018.

Five subgroups recorded year on year inflation rates higher than the groups’ average rate of 11.8 percent.

Transport recorded the highest inflation rate of 18.4 percent, followed by clothing and footwear with 16.4 percent, Recreation and culture with 12.6 percent whiles miscellaneous goods and services recorded 12. 0 percent.

Furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance recorded 11.9 percent.

Inflation was lowest in the Education subgroup with 6.7 percent.
