‘Gov’t won’t pay money outside the budget’- President Mahama

President John Mahama has minced no words by stating that he will not approve any expenditure on wages not provided for in the budget for both workers and Article 72 office holders.

According to the President, he is keen on this pledge irrespective of the likely political consequences that may come as a result of this decision.

“Any agreement that are reached in respect to allowances will have to be captured in the budget, fiscal discipline requires that no a single pesewa is spent on what has been budgeted for, I am determined to hold the line no matter the political consequence” he said.

He made this statement when he addressed members of the Ghana Registered Midwives Association, GRWA at the launch of their 80th anniversary in Accra.

The president’s comments come a week after doctors declared a strike over the absence of better conditions of service. They are threatening to resign en masse if their demands are not meant. “There has been a challenge, they must continue the dialogue to arrive at amicable solution.” he said.

He said if government yields to pressure it is likely to break the back of the single spine.
