Airtel Ghana wins big at IPR awards

CIMG Marketing Oriented Company of the Year, Airtel Ghana has won big in the just ended Institute of Public Relations (IPR) Awards, sweeping up five awards.

The telco giant picked up awards in the following categories; PR Campaign of the Year, Best Community Relations Program of the Year, PR Discovery of the Year, Social Media Company of the Year and PR Organization of the Year – Telecoms.

Receiving the first four awards on behalf of Airtel Ghana, Lucy Quist, MD of Airtel Ghana said: “Contributing productively to the well-being of the local community and making a change in the daily lives of our customers is a cherished corporate goal. Our aim is to empower, improve the quality of life of the people and society that we serve. We thank IPR for this honour, which we are truly proud of.”

The PR Organization of the year award– Telecoms, recognized Airtel Ghana’s most outstanding communications initiatives and programs in the highly competitive and dynamic telecoms industry. The coveted award set the industry benchmark for excellence across all areas of PR.

The second and third awards – the Best Community Relations Programme and Public Relations Campaign of the year respectively – recognized Airtel’s remarkable responsiveness to the needs of different stakeholders across the country and its ability to develop innovative partnerships to fulfill sustainable social responsibilities geared to the welfare of the communities in which it operates through its TV Reality show Touching Lives.

While the fourth award recognized Airtel Ghana for being the Social Media Company of the Year. This award recognized Airtel Ghana for its innovative ways of engaging its customers and stakeholders through the World Wide Web and on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. Airtel Ghana has the highest likes on Facebook with 392,841 among the telecom operators.

The final award was PR Discovery of the Year which recognized Donald Gwira, Head of Corporate Affairs for leading a fantastic team to deliver the excellent PR campaigns across all sectors, including the most outstanding and innovative work in PR advertising, community investment and sponsorship.

The IPR awards were created to honor and generate public recognition for the achievements and positive contributions of organizations and working professionals worldwide in practicing and implementing Public Relations.

Earlier in the year, Airtel won CSR Company of the Year at the Ghana Telecom Awards, CIMG Marketing Oriented Company of the Year, CIMG Brand Activation of the Year as well as Bharti Change Maker Company of the Year.
