‘We will continue to engage gov’t on HR Bill’

The President of Institute of Human Resources Management Practitioners, Mr. John Wilson, has assured its members that they will continue to engage government on the HR Bill through different fronts — such as the Ministry of Education, National Accreditation Board and the Professional Bodies.

Mr. Wilson said this when he delivered his second report as President of the Institute at the 2015 Annual General Meeting (AGM), held at the Accra International Conference Centre, Accra, on Friday, 6th November, 2015.

“A review bill has been resubmitted to the Ministry of Education to lead the process of getting the review and granting the charter status to the Institute of Human Resources Management Practitioners,” Mr. Wilson stated

On the Institute’s performance for the year under review, the President said: “The Institute continued with the Growth Plan under 4 thematic areas dubbed 3+1. This guided all our activities during the period under review, and are defined under: Expansion, Visibility, Capability and Culture”.

Touching on Regional Expansion, the President reported that setting up a Tamale Chapter and also running the Professional Certification Programme in Tamale are both major targets in 2016.

Briefing members on the progress of their HR Complex, the President reported that: “The Institute is in the process of obtaining a building permit from LEKMA to kick-start preparations toward commencing the outer structure Project. The construction of a security post is completed, but walling the land is in progress”.

On expansion, Mr. Wilson said: “The membership drive resulted in an increase of both Associate and full membership, by 23% and 22% respectively. This achievement was a result of our continued engagement with tertiary institutions like the University of Ghana; University of Science & Technology, Kumasi; University of Cape Coast; Kings University College and others.

He made a strong point that HR Managers should be strategically placed in our organisations to create value so as to achieve business results. “We are working hard to make sure that the Institute of Human Resources Management Practitioners will become a Professional HR Body of Choice”.

In his welcome address, the Executive Director of the Institute, Mr. Ebenezer Agbettor reminded members of the 5 important purposes of the 2015 AGM which include: taking inventory; to give another mandate to elected officers whose tenure has come to an end; to pass two resolutions of Code of Ethics and Policy on Sitting allowance; to listen to a seasoned banking personality sharing his thoughts on the chosen topic; and to strengthen networking.

The Guest Speaker, Mr. Daniel Asiedu, spoke on the topic ‘Empowering HR Practitioners in Delivering Business Results — a nagging issue confronting both the private and public sectors.
