Turkish Airlines has expressed interest in partnering the government of Ghana in the establishment of a national carrier.
According to the Turkish Ambassador to Ghana, Nesrin Bayazit, Turkey has the capacity to provide the needed support to grow Ghana’s aviation industry.
Ambassador Nesrin Bayazit made the disclosure when she paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Aviation, Joseph Kofi Adda.
She said Ghana can leverage on the expertise of the Turkish aviation industry.
“We are hearing a lot about the national airline in Ghana and that some companies have already been mentioned and we hope that Turkish airlines could be one of those companies. Recently, a national airline in one of the countries has been established with the assistance of Turkish airlines so maybe we can talk about how we can do same in Ghana,” she stated.
The government is seeking to establish a new national carrier following the collapse of Ghana Airways.
Though the previous [NDC] administration commenced the process it was unable to complete it.
Presently, companies have shown interest include African World Airline, Air Mauritius, Abu Dhabi Airlines as well as Ethiopian Airlines.
This government is however yet consider proposals to select a preferred partner.
On his part, Koffi Adda appealed to Nesrin Bayazit for Turkey to expand its operations in Ghana by helping Ghana in areas of pilot training and other critical sectors need in Ghana’s aviation sector.
“Services in terms of the airline business and the infrastructure and also the policy of trying to train pilots so any kind of support and collaboration in that regard are things we can look at and explore”.
