Textile Industry Decries Influx Of Fake Materials Again

Textile industry workers have reiterated calls for government to intensify checks at the borders to prevent smuggling of fake textiles into the country.

According to them, the industry is still grappling with the influx of cheap and counterfeit goods on the market which affects their profits.

Textile workers have constantly appealed to government to rid the market off smuggled textile products.

Government has since set up a task force at the borders to see to this.

But in an interview with Citi Business News, Marketing Manager at Woodin, Georgina Mensah tasked government to enforce stricter measures at the borders to save the ailing textile industry

“We all know that there is an influx of copies on the market. So when we produce a new design today, in a week or two you could find the same design on the market but what I can say is the borders have to be tightened so that these copies don’t get into our markets because that is what is killing the local industry” she said.

Madam Mensah spoke to Citi Business News at the sidelines of the unveiling of its new ready to wear collection ‘‘New Generation de Woodin’’ last in Accra.
