Sole distributor of Renault vehicles in Ghana, Premium Motors Limited has stated that the establishment of an assembly plant for their vehicles in Ghana may commence by end of 2020.
According to company, the setting of an assembly plant will see a reduction in the import of Renault vehicles in the country.
This brings to four, the number of vehicle manufacturers announcing their intentions to set up vehicle assembly plants in Ghana.
German auto giant, Volkswagen, Japan’s Nissan and China’s Sinotruk have all disclosed plans to establish assembly plants in the country.
In an interview with journalists at the launch of “THE ALL-NEW 2019 RENAULT DUSTER”, Premium Motors CEO, Jihad Hijazi indicated that made in Ghana label will be inscribed on all Renault assembled cars in country.
“All things been equal it looks good. We look forward to establishing the assembly plant here. This will definitely create jobs and put the Made in Ghana label on the vehicle. We are to make the decision within this year. It is a plan that is meant to be a short term plan and something that is supposed to be realized between the end of 2019 and 2020”.
Mr. Hijazi noted that the prices of the vehicles will be reduced when assembled in Ghana.
“The prices of the vehicles will further be reduced. The assembly plant is not envisaged to produce for the sub region but for the markets primarily and as things go well then we look at producing for the sub region”
He indicated that the All – New 2019 Renault Duster has additional features compared to the previous editions.
