The Private Enterprise Federation (PEF) has questioned the level of consultation by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) with industry leading to the release of a load shedding timetable for the industrial sector.
Industries are expected to be without power two days in a week, while the mining industry will lose 25% of power.
The ECG roped in the industrial zones on Monday 1st December, 2014 following the worsening power crisis in the country.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Private Enterprises Federation (PEF),Nana Osei Bonsu said in an interview, “I don’t know how the consultation went but we at PEF were not consulted”.
Meanwhile the Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has called for stronger collaboration between the ECG and players in the industrial sector.
This is despite earlier opposition to the move to rope in the industrial zones into the load shedding program.
According to the First Vice President of the GCCI Dr. Prosper Adabla, “the way it is now ,once we know what days they are going to be scheduling for the industrial zones, then perhaps we can make adjustments to work on weekends”.
