The Government of Netherlands has expressed its commitment to help Ghana commercialize the production of vegetables and fruits through the use of technology.
According to government of Netherlands, the current policies that have been put in place by the government will help attract foreign investments as well as compel such businesses to expand their operations for exports.
“We want to bring in investments, we want to do local processing here in Ghana because it’s really sad to know that Ghana is still importing onions from the Netherlands, onions that can be grown here in Ghana and we are very much willing to support Ghana,” a representative from the embassy of Netherlands, Thierry Van Hilden said.
He added, “The Netherlands wants to work with Ghana but it’s in the field of technology; we want to make sure that Ghana has access to high level technological equipment so that we can together grow high quality vegetable here in Ghana.”
Thierry Van Hilden however insisted that the government must put these policies into practice to ensure the expected results.
“I’m also appealing to the government, the ministry of agriculture and the ministry of trade and industry to put the policies into practice we want to see at the end of the year that Ghana has climbed up on the ease of doing business”.
Thierry Van Hilden was speaking at the opening ceremony of Eden Tree Factory in Accra.
He subsequently challenged Ghana to be a net exporter of vegetables by the year 2020.
Eden Tree Factory, located at Spintex, is a leading producer and distributor of high-end fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs in the country.
