ECG revises load shedding timetable

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has revised the current load shedding timetable.

The power rationing exercise is set to worsen as consumers will now have to endure 24hours of power and no power at all for the next 24hours.

According to the Public Relations Officer of ECG, William Boateng, the country dealing with a shortfall of about 540 megawatts was a huge challenge to them.

“It is a huge challenge because, we ourselves we don’t even know when you are going to go off and when you are having power,” he disclosed.

Several parts of the country have been battling with unexpected power cuts, thereby making it difficult for them to plan activities around the published power rationing schedule released about a month ago.

The current schedule, Mr. Boateng stated, was designed to shed 400 megawatts of power and since the shortfall was 540, the new schedule has become necessary to accommodate the additional shortfall of 140megawatts.

“We’ll meet with our suppliers [Volta River Authority and Ghana Grid Company] on the situation.”

According to him, the power distributor is the hardest hit by the development because, its staff cannot read the consumption levels of consumers.

“Now we can’t even go and read consumers’ meters because any time they go the meters are off,” he said.

Meanwhile, Public Relations Manager for the Volta River Authority (VRA), Samuel Fletcher is optimistic the situation will improve significantly in the next three years.

“The projects that are lined up in the next two to three years will really get us out of this problem because we will have a reserve margin that we are looking for”.
