Check Point eyes Ghanaian market

Worldwide leader in internet security solutions, Check Point Software Technologies, is making a move into Ghana’s relatively dormant but potentially large market.

The company organized a day’s customer workshop in Accra, on October 23, to educate the public on cyber threats and the need for protection.

Check Point’s Security Engineer for West Africa, Justice Anyai, disclosed that despite high internet usage in Ghana, patronage of security solutions is rather slow due to a low level of awareness of cyber thefts and other threats, as compared to other West African countries.

“With ongoing education presently, there is no reason why the Ghanaian market shouldn’t pick up soon as in Nigeria,” Anyai said.

Internet World Statistic estimates that the number of internet users in Ghana rose rapidly to 3.6 million out of a population of 25 million, as at June 30 2012, from a low figure of 20,000 users in 1999.

Mr. Kunle Nubi, Ghana Country Manager of DataGroup, sole distributor of Check Point products, disclosed that cyber fraud is on the ascendancy in Ghana and that there have been incidences of  siphoning of information in West Africa, meaning Ghana is also at risk.

“The more and more we use the internet and process and store much of our personal information on our laptops and telephones, we are all exposed to cyber fraud just as the big organisations and Check Point offers products at various levels to meet specific needs of clients,” Nubi explained.

Check Point, which first pioneered the industry with FireWall-1 and its patented stateful inspection technology, provides customers with uncompromised protection against all types of threats, reduces security complexity and lowers total cost of ownership.

The company presently continues to develop new innovations based on the
Software Blade Architecture, providing customers with flexible and simple solutions that can be fully customized to meet the exact security needs of any organization.

Anyai said Check Point’s 3D Security uniquely combines policy, people and enforcement for greater protection of information assets and helps organizations implement a blueprint for security that aligns with business needs.

“Basically we have solutions that are meant for various categories of customers; from SMEs to large corporate organisations right down to the individual end user. We have a solution to meet their specific security requirement,” Anyai disclosed.
