BoG denies printing new currency denominations

The Bank of Ghana has denied printing new currency denominations.

Over the weekend, pictures of Ghc100, GHc30 and GHc200 notes circulated on various social media platforms, eliciting rumours that the central bank was printing new notes.

According to the Head of Public Affairs Office of the Governor’s Department of the Bank of Ghana Esi Hammond, there are no plans to issue new notes and as such the pictures should be disregarded.

She stated that strict procedures are followed before releasing photos and security features of the new currency denominations and those procedures did not include taking to social media.

An investigation has been launched into the issue.
