‘Bear with us’- Gov’t to Domestic Airlines

The Ministry of Transport has appealed to the domestic airline operators to bear with them as an upgrade is carried out on the Kumasi Airport.

CEO of Starbow, a domestic carrier, Eric Antwi yesterday registered his displeasure on behalf of all domestic carriers; calling the closure disrespectful as they were not informed before it was carried out.

According to his statement, the closure which started last Friday had caused a lot of losses for them.

Deputy Minister of Transport, Joyce Bawah Mogtari attributed the partial closure to ongoing works intended to ensure the safety of passengers.

“To the best of my knowledge some disruption will be experienced especially with the morning flights but I will want to call on our domestic carriers to bear with us. We want to ensure that we make that airport safe and efficient knowing that safety is one of the key word when it comes to the aviation industry,” she said.

The Ghana Airport Company has also attributed the delay in the contractor’s work to weather conditions that are contrary to what is forecasted.

The contractor hence has had to extend his working hours into the early hours of the morning to allow the runway to be used.
