Bawumia’s speech was full of factual inaccuracies- Ato Forson

A deputy Minister of Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson has described the lecture by Economist and Vice Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as “full of factual inaccuracies” which needed to be disregarded.

Dr Bawumia, who held a lecture on the Ghana- IMF bailout under the theme, “IMF bailout: Will the anchor hold?” alleged that the African Development Bank (AfDB) had sanctioned Ghana for failing to pay debts it owed the bank.

According to Mr Forson, Dr Bawumia’s allegations were very unfortunate.

“…For you to go out and say AFDB has blacklisted or sanctioned Ghana is very unfortunate because it is not based on fact but heresay and I don’t understand why he didn’t even crosscheck; an institution that he himself got an opportunity to work with…I believe he could have crosschecked this information but he failed woefully in checking these facts”.

Meanwhile, the AfDB has released a statement to debunk the rumour it had sanctioned Ghana. According to them, Ghana was mistakenly put on the list last month but the anomaly was corrected that same day.

“We wish to state that Ghana is current on all its obligations with the AfDB. Ghana is not on the list of countries under sanctions by the AfDB”, the statement said.
