Airtel Ghana now offers subscribers the cheapest rates to call other networks in the country.
This is according to a report by the National Communications Authority (NCA).
By August 2014, Airtel went below the industry average of 12 pesewas a minute to 9 pesewas.
Vodafone was the most expensive network to use in making calls to other networks despite all its promotions and offers, charging 19 pesewas a minute. They were however the cheapest network when it came to making calls to the United Kingdom, charging 30 pesewas a minute as against industry’s 58 pesewas.
For calls to the USA, MTN Ghana is the best network to use as it charges customers the lowest rate of 10 pesewas a minute to make that call.
Making calls to other African countries like Nigeria and South-Africa will cost consumers less to use Glo since it charges the lowest of 16 pesewas and 27 pesewas a minute respectively.
Analysts believe that the expensive tariff structure of some of the network operators will compound the challenges that they face in adding to their subscriber numbers.
