Africa Internet Group making strides across the world

The continent’s leading internet group, Africa Internet Group (AIG), has since its inception in 2012, created 71 companies operating across 26 countries in eight different verticals, with bright prospects for further growth.

The AIG’s verticals currently include online retail, food ordering platform, online marketplace, Real Estate marketplace, vehicle marketplace, taxi hailing, online travel agency and peer to peer (P2P) lending marketplace.

The Group introduced its members, operating in Ghana, to the media at a breakfast meeting, in Accra, with briefs on services they provide and payment arrangements, among others.

Akua Nyame-Mensah, MD of Ghana’s leading property marketplace, Lamudi Ghana, observed that the business is growing by the month as Real Estates websites allow potential buyers to easily search through a large number of properties using just their internet enabled devices.

She disclosed that legitimacy is one of the top priorities at the core of their operations and they work closely with agents to ensure that information on each listing on their website is complete and with photos that are of the highest quality.

Globally, Lamudi has over 750,000 listings in 30 countries and since its launch in Ghana in November 2013, has over 6,500 properties listed.

Kaymu.com.gh, Ghana’s leading online marketplace also makes it smoother and safer for sellers to conduct business online by making it possible for buyers to purchase items, have them delivered anywhere in Ghana, and then pay for their orders using several payment methods, including cash on delivery.

Kaymu’s MD, Louis Mensah disclosed it was the inefficiencies and lack of pricing transparency, among other bottlenecks, in the grey and informal market that led them to believe they could leverage technology and learnings from other markets to propel a leapfrog moment in retail.

It has made great strides, since it was founded in October 2013, with over 2,700 active sellers currently listed on its site. Kaymu is active in 34 countries across Africa, Europe and Asia.

Other presentations were from Carmudi, which aggregates thousands of new, used and certified second-hand vehicles from dealers and private sellers and provides buyers with organised information on vehicles purchases. The rest are hellofood, Easy Taxi, and Jumia.
