20 under 40: Russel Eni

Russell Eni is the snap-happy hand guiding Insel Communications, one of the fast rising firms in Ghana’s competitive advertising space.

By his own account, having accidentally stumbled into production at Metro TV; “the stars aligned and I got offered a job at David Ampofo’s Channel 2 Communications as Creative Director in what was one of the more successful ad agencies in Ghana at the time.”

Daring and innovative, Russel took a bet on his experience at the two organisations, brief as they were, to punch above his weight, with imaginative creations that have rolled out some of the most eye-catching ads for some of the biggest corporate brands in the country, including Frytol, TiGo, Voltic, Nestle and Guinness.

More comfortable in Polo shirts and jeans, Russels accepts in good faith the advice to; “do up your office, give it a facelift and we’ll double what we pay you,” by a client. And he’s given to kindness too, in a quiet way.

“There are a couple,” he discloses; “being in a position to be able to send money – anonymously – to one of our hospitals to pay for the bills of new-born infants. We don’t need the publicity or parents coming to thank us; it’s the joy it brings to be able to do some small good.”

Now, personally, he’s looking to establish an electronic media school that gives free skills and opportunities to talented, underprivileged individuals. And for Insel Communications; “expand our team of highly specialized individuals and our toolset. Grow a footprint of our work across the African region. Build our new offices and studio.”
